Srikakulam stampede: Ten people were killed in a stampede at Venkateshwara Temple in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district on Saturday. The incident occurred as a large crowd gathered at the temple on the occasion of Ekadashi. The heavy rush of devotees led to overcrowding, resulting in a sudden stampede.The stampede occurred at around 11.30 am, and "Seven persons died and two others were injured," Kasibugga sub-division in-charge DSP Lakshman Rao told PTI. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, said the state's Chief Minister's office. Additional police forces have been deployed to the spot.Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the stampede, saying he was pained by the incident. “My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon,” he said.
