The halls of the Springfield Museums played host to a spellbinding evening on Thursday, Oct. 23, when culture, community, and a touch of the uncanny converged at the gala “Bewitched.” Guests arrived at the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum in downtown Springfield, stepping onto a Witches’ Path, making more than a typical fundraiser. Inside the gilded-age museum building, attendees had an evening of entertainment including tarot-card readings, costumed performers, a DJ and pianist set and appearances by the museum’s founders brought to life from the past. Additionally, guests sampled hors d’oeuvres and raised glasses, beer, wine and a welcome cocktail that was included, in support of the Museums’ exhibitions and programs. Beyond the festive trappings, the evening underscored the vital role of the Springfield Museums in the community: its mission to deliver world-class exhibitions, education and cultural enrichment in Western Massachusetts. Proceeds from the gala supported those efforts and reflected strong local engagement, from major sponsors to dozens of individual supporters whose names were listed in the program.
