EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - It was one of the busiest days of the year in the prep sports calendar. In Wisconsin Rapids, the top cross country runners in the state competed at the WIAA Championships. Top performers included Lauren McCalla of Menomonie, who shattered the state meet record in route to the Division 1 title. Rice Lake’s Carter Kucko took home the title in boys Division 2. Saturday also served as the sectional finals in girls volleyball. Regis punched their ticket to state for a second straight year with a win over Clear Lake in Division 4. On the other side of the D-4 bracket, Blair-Taylor topped Fennimore to reach the state tournament for the first time in program history. In Division 3, Barron is headed back to the state tournament for a second straight season after defeating Grantsburg. Onalaska also reached the state tournament in D-3. Rice Lake fell to Waupaca in Division 2 and Prairie Farm fell to Rib Lake in Division 5.
