For 18 months, el-Fasher was under siege, its people subjected to heavy bombardment and starvation as the RSF fought to capture the Sudanese army’s last stronghold in Darfur. On Sunday, it finally took the city from its former allies, putting the paramilitary group in control of almost all the Darfur region. Since then, video evidence of summary executions of civilians in Sudan has drawn widespread condemnation. The head of the World Health Organization said he was “appalled and deeply shocked” by the reported killing of 460 people in the Saudi Hospital on Tuesday. Dr Alaaeldin Nugud, spokesperson for the Leadership Council of the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), which is led by RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, denied there was any evidence of this, telling Matt Frei, “This is not true. There is no video evidence for RSF killing 460 [people].” He went on to say, “They said that this video is in the Saudi hospital. But one of the people… he said that we are in a finance ministry or in a finance place. So it’s not a hospital.” “This is not true. There is no video evidence for RSF killing 460 [people].” – Dr Alaaeldin Nugud Dr Nugud alleged that such claims are part of a media campaign against the RSF, but also TASIS, which was set up as an alternative government to the military-led authorities in the capital Khartoum. “Many of the SAF [Sudanese Armed Forces] soldiers were wearing the RSF uniforms and contemplating atrocities in many places of Sudan during this war,” he told Channel 4 News. But he added, “There are some individual atrocities and they are getting accountable,“ offering as an example a man called Abu Lulu, widely thought to be an RSF fighter, who he said had just been arrested. Channel 4 News has seen video which shows Abu Lulu executing unarmed civilians who are sitting on the ground. Images on social media also show Abu Lulu wearing RSF uniform. But Dr Nugud denied Abu Lulu was a member of the RSF saying, “Abu Lulu has a video of himself saying that he is not belonging to the RSF. So he’s not an RSF soldier.” “There are some individual atrocities and they are getting accountable.“ – Dr Alaaeldin Nugud He also rejected suggestions that the RSF is trying to split Sudan in two, claiming, “The TASIS peace government is the only guarantee for the unity of Sudan.” And he denied they are backed by the United Arab Emirates. “This is a very big lie, also. This is very big propaganda in this war that is made by the SAF and the Muslim Brotherhood, the NCP [National Congress Party]. We are not backed by anyone.
