Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Barr. Sunday Katung, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement personally signed by the lawmaker on Saturday, Katung said his decision to join the ruling party was driven by a genuine desire to serve his constituency more effectively. The defection comes less than 24 hours after the Federal High Court in Abuja stopped the PDP from holding its 2025 national convention. In the statement titled “A New Chapter: A Message of Unity and Purpose,” Katung explained that the move followed weeks of consultations with constituents, stakeholders, family members, and political associates. He said, “During this period, I have engaged in deep consultations with constituents, critical stakeholders, family members, friends, and political associates regarding a most difficult—but ultimately necessary—decision: my decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).” The senator noted that the decision was also in response to calls from various segments of his constituency urging him to align with the APC to enhance development in Kaduna South. According to him, the support and interest shown by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in fostering development across the district further influenced his decision. While acknowledging that politics is dynamic, he appealed to friends and associates who might disagree with his decision to maintain mutual respect and unity despite political differences. “As Thomas Jefferson wisely said, ‘I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, or in philosophy as cause for withdrawing from a friend,’” he quoted. Katung assured his supporters of open communication and renewed focus on delivering better governance and development for the people of Kaduna South Senatorial District.
