It was the effort of a galloper well-fitted to run this distance out fresh, and ultimately get over far more ground. Southerly Buster opened on the third line of betting around $5.50 – behind Scone rivals Ready And Lucky $3.80 and Trapeze Legend $5.00 – and drew to get plenty of cover early in the race. The Singleton camp accepted for two other starters, Zoomorphic ($7.50) who is second-up off an even return at Muswellbrook, and at much longer odds six-year-old Zahdi who is deep into the current campaign. A win for Southerly Buster could well bookend the meeting for the Singleton yard. In the opening Maiden Hcp over 1350m, progressive filly Rainbow Blessing looks hard to beat third-up, again from a low draw with Christian Reith in the saddle.
