A South Lanarkshire butcher’s pies have been deemed worthy of national recognition at the recent Scottish Craft Butchers Awards. Strachan Craft Butchers, who have shops at Blantyre, Larkhall and East Kilbride, have won two awards in the 2025 Scottish Craft Butchers Steak Pie & Speciality Meat Pie Evaluation. Strachan won silver awards for both their Steak & Pork Sausage Pie and Steak & Beef Sausage Pie. The heats were held at Forth Valley College last month with more than 140 pies from throughout the country were tested for appearance, flavour, texture and appeal. The panel of judges included industry experts, food writers and interested consumers who were blown away by the quality, innovation and craft in each pie. The event is organised by Scottish Craft Butchers in conjunction with William Sword and Dalziel Retail Butchery. Danny Upson, Sales and Marketing Director for Dalziel Retail Butchery who sponsors the Speciality Meat Pie evaluation said: “We are thrilled to sponsor the Specialty Meat Pie Competition! “For a century, we’ve been dedicated to inspiring retail butchers with innovative solutions, empowering them to thrive in a competitive landscape.” Nikki McDowell of William Sword Ltd, sponsors of the Traditional Steak Pie Evaluation, added: “At William Sword Ltd, we are proud to continue supporting the rich traditions of Scottish food culture, and there’s nothing more iconic than the steak pie. “Sponsoring the Traditional Steak Pie Awards allows us to celebrate the skill, quality, and passion of butchers and bakers across the country who keep this timeless favourite at the heart of family tables. “It’s an honour to recognise the craftsmanship that goes into every pie.” *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
