COLUMBIA — Thanksgiving is one of the busiest times of the year for travel with people flying around the country to go home or try out a new city for the holiday. But Southern Living found that one city in particular takes the lead when it comes to air travel — Columbia. The top ranking comes from Google Flights, which gave Columbia the number one spot after looking at what cities have had the largest percentage increase in searches for trips departing from Nov. 23 to Nov. 30. Southern Living described Columbia’s “historic downtown, outdoor adventure, museums, and riverfront area” as key attractions for visitors but also noted that many are drawn to the city due to it being a “lively college town.” This is especially true for Thanksgiving weekend, when the University of South Carolina is set to host Clemson in the Palmetto Bowl at Williams-Brice Stadium in the schools’ annual rivalry game on Nov. 29. The game is typically well attended by fans from both sides and should be a fair matchup this year as both teams head into their eighth game of the season with matching 3-4 records.
