PTIAgitators hold posters during a protest by AAP over the arrest of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, at Jantar Mantar, in New Delhi.
Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, says a false narrative and fake propaganda is being spread against her husband as CBI, IB, IT, Ladakh administration and other agencies failed to gather any evidence against him over the past four years.Angmo told ET that she is yet to receive a copy of the detention order of Wangchuk, who was arrested on September 26 from Ladakh and booked under the National Security Act and shifted to Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan. She is in touch with top lawyers and will take legal recourse once she receives a copy of the detention order. The authorities had informed her that Wangchuk will be allowed to make a call to her once they land in Jodhpur, but she hasn’t received any call.”They are now stooping down to create false narratives such as links with Pakistan and other ridiculous allegations just to frame him. The most ludicrous decision is to arrest him under NSA,” Angmo told ET. She said his demands for Sixth Schedule and legislature for Ladakh is the reason why he is being targeted. “Sonam praised Modi at the Pakistan conference for his simple lifestyle initiative. He praises Modi for the other good things he is doing,” said Angmo, adding, “Sonam has always stood for truth and for the nation. He was not just BJP’s poster boy but the poster boy of every party in the country.” She said, till recently, all parties ahead of the Lok Sabha elections requested him to fight elections on their party tickets, but he refused.”Now, if the same Modi, who wins elections in Ladakh (2019) with the promise that Sixth Schedule will be granted, then as a well-wisher of Modi, it is Sonam’s duty to inform him that if he does not fulfil his promises, people will not elect his party a second time,” said Angmo, adding, “…that is what happened in the last polls (2024).”Live Events “Somebody who has worked for the greatness of India cannot be anti-national. One who has built warm houses for the Indian Army cannot be pro-China or pro-Pakistan. Someone who made videos to boycott Chinese products cannot be unpatriotic,” said Angmo.
