The Socorro Independent School District Police Services Department has recently amplified its capacity for ensuring a secure learning environment through the promotion of two key officers. Officer Analyz Zamora now proudly takes the lead as the first female handler in the K9 unit, while Officer Ashley Roque steps up as the department's newly minted detective. "Officer Zamora and Officer Roque earned their new roles through merit, dedication and a strong work ethic," Chief George Johnson said, as obtained by Socorro ISD. With Zamora's new role, she partners with K9 Nia, a Dutch Shepherd expertly trained in narcotics detection and search operations. Together, they are set to maintain and enhance the safety of the school premises, ensuring a drug-free zone for students, faculty, and the wider school community. On the other side, Roque gears up to tackle her responsibilities that include leading investigations, conducting interviews, and gathering evidence to further secure the educational facilities. "I'm ready to start spreading that work ethic that I have to other people so we can continue to move the department forward," Roque told Socorro ISD. The SISD police department stands as a cornerstone in the collective safety of El Paso's educational landscape, boasting over 70 police officers, among them 14 female officers and dispatchers. Notably, the department also encompasses specialized units such as a trained SWAT team, crisis negotiators, a traffic unit, and a criminal investigation division, all of which are central to its operational effectiveness. In addition, the SISD detectives contribute to the El Paso Fusion Center, serving as a pivotal node in the broader tapestry of information and intelligence sharing between local law enforcement agencies.
