The Social-Educational Survey began across different districts in southern Karnataka on Monday.
Minister for Agriculture N. Cheluvarayaswamy, who is also the Minister in charge of Mandya district, kicked off the survey from the house of one Basavaraju in Ward No. 20 of Mandya. Minister for Minor Irrigation N.S. Boseraju, who is also the Minister in charge of Kodagu district, launched the survey in Madikeri.
According to a statement, 60 questions will be part of the survey’s questionnaire. The details sought by the enumerators include the name of the head of the family, father’s name, mother’s name, home address, mobile number, ration card number, Aadhaar card number, voter ID card, total members in the family, religion, caste/sub-caste, caste category, caste certificate, certificate number, date of birth, age, gender, marital status, place of birth, level of education, main occupation of the family, etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said the survey was not just a caste census, but an exercise to understand the social, educational, and economic conditions of the people in the State.
Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy, who requested the public to provide accurate information when the enumerators visit their houses, also instructed the enumerators to behave patiently while interacting with the public during the visit to their houses. He asked the enumerators to pose questions in the given questionnaire in a manner that is comprehensible to the public and obtain answers.
A total of 4,446 enumerators had been assigned 5,29,032 families in Mandya district. Each enumerator has been assigned a block consisting of 120 families and one supervisor has been assigned for every 20 enumerators, said a statement.
MLA for Mandya Ravikumar, MLC Dinesh Gooli Gowda, Deputy Commissioner Kumar, Mandya Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K.R. Nandini, Superintendent of Police were among the others present during the launch of the survey.
In Kodagu, Mr. Boseraju launched the survey. He said the aim of the government is to ensure that its welfare reached everybody. “To achieve this goal, it is essential to accurately identify the eligible persons from backward classes and deliver the government’s benefits to them,” he said.
MLA for Virajpet A.S. Ponnanna, who is also the Chief Minister’s Legal Advisor, MLA for Madikeri Manthar Gowda, Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu Venkat Raja, Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan, and Kodagu Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Anand Prakash Meena were also present on the occasion.
