The Communist Party of India-Marxist [CPI(M)] politburo member B.V. Raghavulu on Friday (November 7) said imperialists, particularly the U.S., are fast losing their dominance and that socialism is witnessing a global resurgence. He was addressing a meeting organised by the CPI(M) here, marking the anniversary of the First Socialist Revolution. Mr. Raghavulu said the recent U.S. elections, where socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani defeated Donald Trump-backed forces in New York, reflect the growing disillusionment with capitalism. “Over 60% American youth now favour socialism,” he said, citing a recent survey. Despite attempts by imperialist nations to assert dominance through wars and economic coercion, the global capitalist order is in decline, he said. Under socialism, citizens would be guaranteed housing, food, employment, livelihood and equality, along with protection of the environment, all of which capitalism has failed to deliver. The U.S., facing economic stagnation, is instigating wars in Palestine, Ukraine and South Asia to sustain its hegemony. “But these are desperate moves. Capitalism is collapsing while socialist nations like China and Vietnam surge ahead,” he said. Earlier, Red Shirt volunteers marched through the streets of Vijayawada in a massive rally from Tummalapalli Kalakshetram to the Makineni Basavapunnaiah Vignana Kendram, raising slogans for socialism and workers’ rights.
