The government shutdown has caused widespread uncertainty, social security beneficiaries are being reassured that their monthly checks will continue to arrive without interruption.

During a government shutdown, many services will come to a halt in the United States but crucial health programs will continue to operate. Though it remains unclear till when the shutdown will last, accurate and on-time Social Security payments are expected to continue during the shutdown, with 88 percent of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) staff being retained.“The functions of the excepted employees will remain largely the same as those described in our most recent plans. We are excepting staff to support our information technology (IT) programmatic applications and infrastructure and our fraud prevention activities related to the timely and accurate payment of benefits to the public,” the SSA states in its contingency plan.However, during the partial shutdown, cost-of-living adjustments may be delayed, reports The New York Times. However, some requests cannot be fulfilled until the government is fully funded again.
