Social Security disability benefits will be paid this week to millions of Americans. Why It Matters Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a federal program in the U.S. that provides monthly payments to people with low income and limited resources who are aged 65 or older, blind, or disabled. As of August 2025, there are around 7.4 million Americans who collect these benefits. What To Know On October 31, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive their monthly payment. This is a day earlier than usual, with SSI payments usually made on the first day of the month. “When the first day of the month falls on the weekend or a federal holiday, you receive your SSI payment on the last business day before the first day of the month. That means you may get two SSI payments in the same month,” the SSA wrote in a 2022 blog post. Social Security “We do this to avoid putting you at a financial disadvantage and make sure that you don’t have to wait beyond the first of the month to get your payment. It does not mean that you are receiving a duplicate payment in the previous month, so you do not need to contact us to report the second payment,” the agency said. The SSA advises recipients to allow at least three business days for payments to arrive before contacting the agency about any delays. Social Security benefits are not impacted by the current government shutdown. If you are waiting on other types of benefits being paid in November, the upcoming dates are: Monday, November 3: Social Security benefits for those who also collect SSI or have been collecting benefits since before May 1997. Wednesday, November 12: Retirement, spousal and survivor benefits for those born between the 1st and 10th of any calendar month. Wednesday, November 19: Benefits for those born between the 11th and 20th. Wednesday, November 26: Benefits for those with birthdays between the 21st and 31st. How Much Is SSI? For 2025, the maximum monthly SSI payment is $967 for an individual and $1,450 for a couple. However, how much you get can vary from this as each recipients benefit is calculated based on your income, certain family members’ income, your living situation, and other factors. The SSA has also recently announced that benefits for all Social Security programs will be boosted in 2026 thanks to the annual Cost of Living Adjustment, or COLA. Benefits will rise by 2.8 percent beginning in January. This boosts the maximum available amount to $994 for a single person and $1,491 for a couple.
