The ambitious second Social and Educational Survey, being conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, is scheduled to come to an end on Friday, even as the online survey has been extended till November 10. Minister for Backward Classes Shivaraj Tangadagi told presspersons here on Thursday that no decision to extend the survey beyond Friday has been taken. Opportunity to those who wish to participate in the survey online has been given till November 10, he said. The survey commenced across the State on September 22 and in the Greater Bengaluru Authority region on October 4. Though the survey was supposed to have been completed by October 7, it was extended twice since the progress had been slow in the initial days. As per the current deadline, the survey has to end on Friday. This is the second survey after the 2015 survey conducted by H. Kantharaj Commission, the report of which was submitted K. Jayaprakash Hegde in 2024. According to the Minister, the survey across the State has shown a progres of 101.47% covering about 1.46 crores homes and 5.52 crores population. “In the GBA region, the survey progress is about 48.32%. Several technical issues for the slow progress has been identified. A large number of residents of Bengaluru are migrants from other districts. They have refused to provide details here since their details have been captured in their respective hometowns.” Besides, he pointed out, the number of meters are more, resulting in the slow progress reports. “We assessing details as to why the progress has been slow.”
