Mason Newman’s Gunmakers Arms is coming soon to shake up the pubs of Birmingham City Centre. Pubs are closing at an alarming rate in the UK, but significant factors in this decline, beyond a lunatic government wrecking the economy, are that most businesses lack a clear strategy. Just as worrying is that some publicans come into the game making the same mistakes as the last guy who was failing to sell the same products to the same audience. My business partner in this venture is Mason Newman, a self-taught British artist and designer based in the U.K., known for his provocative, satirical works that critique modern society. The artist in residence Depressed Generation: (Sertraline Red Large): A signature piece exploring mental health struggles amid consumerism. Ed Hardy Collaboration (2023): Sold-out limited-edition clothing line, making Newman the first artist besides Don Ed Hardy: to feature original designs on Ed Hardy garments. Madonna Collaboration: Custom artwork integrated into the pop icon’s projects. Black Sabbath x Mason Newman: Recent fashion and art crossover, highlighted on his Instagram. Topman: ‘Romance at the Rodeo’ Collection (September 2025): Cowboy-inspired limited-edition menswear collab, blending his satirical style with retail fashion. In early October 2025, Newman released a limited-edition print of an Ozzy Osbourne artwork, gifted to the late rock legend shortly before his passing, to benefit charities, underscoring his blend of celebrity homage and philanthropy. The pub will feature Mason’s work, extremely rare rock n’ roll memorabilia, and will be home to takeovers with household names already in the book for next year. Deals are signed with the biggest band in the land, Kiss and The Rolling Stones. The vibe of the bar will be spun from the rich threads of rock music, provocative art, the latest brands of beer, the finest coffees, and of course, aesthetically, it will feel more like a brothel than a regular pub. Football fans get recognised in a city centre venue However, we not only share the same taste in music, but we are massive football fans, and so this pair of Aston Villa and Tottenham supporters will host football-friendly days and nights on big match days. Multiple TVs will play pre-match and post-match content, as well as offer specials to help you enjoy your stay in the country’s second city. At last, a city centre pub that takes football seriously. Above the bar in the new year, our Victorian building has half a dozen quirky themed rooms for those wishing to make a night of it; these will open in the new year. There’s a VIP room, of course, for the high roller fans, a dedicated space for emerging musical talent, which will be live-streamed around the bar and online, and of course, we are easy to get to.
