Snapchat is finally rolling out features that users have been asking about for years. The social media giant is introducing Infinite Retention, a new way to save chats permanently, and is also expanding its popular streaks feature to group chats. Both options have been in testing for a while, and now they’re officially available for everyone, here’s everything you need to know. Saving Chats Permanently With Infinite Retention Until now, Snapchat’s chats would vanish unless you manually saved a specific message by tapping on it. With Infinite Retention, that hassle is gone. Users can toggle the feature on for specific conversations, allowing chats to stay saved indefinitely. Whenever Infinite Retention is enabled, both people in the chat are notified, just like Snapchat alerts users when a screenshot is taken. Importantly, either side can switch the feature off at any time, keeping things transparent. This change brings Snapchat closer to traditional messaging apps like WhatsApp and Instagram, making conversations feel more reliable while still offering users control. That’s changing now. With the new update, group chats can also build and maintain streaks. The rules remain familiar: to keep a streak alive, members of the group need to send Snaps within 24 hours. The difference here is that not every single member needs to contribute, Snapchat says “most members” participating is enough to maintain the streak. Like individual streaks, group streaks are optional and even if broken, they can be restored within a week.
