Sleeping man allegedly stabbed, had petrol poured on him during break-in

A man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a sleeping man and poured petrol over him after breaking into a Brisbane home.

Queensland Police allege the 25-year-old broke into house on Mollison Street at South Brisbane at 5:15am on Saturday and stabbed a 27-year-old man in the torso while he slept.

It is alleged the man then poured petrol on the victim before he was interrupted by another person and fled on foot.

The 27-year-old West End man remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police will allege the men were known to each other.

“Detectives declared a crime scene and rapidly carried out investigations which led to the arrest of the Camira man near a Morayfield shopping centre at 9:30am yesterday,” a police spokesperson said.

The 25-year-old man has been charged with one count of attempted murder and enter dwelling with intent.

He is expected to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
