A dentist in Santa Clarita is facing massive backlash after a video of her joking about turning down pain-relieving gas for liberal patients at her clinic surfaced online. The viral video that resurfaced on TikTok shows the dentist joking that she gives “different care” to patients who aren’t Trump supporters.According to Los Angeles Times, Dr. Harleen Grewal of Skyline Smiles made a series of jokes and sarcastic remarks about her dislike for left-leaning clients during a speech at the 2021 Republican Liberty Gala. The comments recently gained widespread attention after a video of the speech went viral on TikTok. Some users said they’ve reported Dr. Grewal to the California Dental Board, while others have left reviews saying, “This doctor bragged on video that she treats patients differently based on their political views. This is not just unprofessional, it is unethical and scary”, as per Fox News.The re-surfaced video of Harleen Grewal of her joking that she doesn’t give her best care to patients who do not support President Donald Trump went viral, sparking furious reactions online. The video is not new. It was first posted two years ago by her own office — intended as a joke to show her personality.On Thursday, Grewal allowed cameras into her dental practice and agreed to an interview, saying the controversy was driven by someone trying to “cancel” her. They cleared it out and said there was nothing they could find that proved any of that.””I hate seeing politics come into a business like this. I don’t think it has a place there, and it really bothers me that that video was made, that that was said,” said Santa Clarita resident Valerie Bradford. Some patients emailed Eyewitness News, saying they are changing dentists after seeing the video.Grewal summed up the controversy as a “smear campaign” and says she feels politically targeted. She says she calls her patients her family. No-one is directly getting harmed from it. I’m making a joke. We all make jokes. I’m sure the democrats get in a room and make jokes about republicans too,” Grewal said in response to the backlash. “People should take light of the situation, relax, chill, it’s not that big of a deal to just make a joke every now and then,” she added. Civil rights attorney James DeSimone says Dr. Grewal may have opened herself up to legal trouble, even if she says it was just a joke. “It is against the law to discriminate someone based on their political beliefs.
