Skip boss, 35, dies after getting caught up in ‘waste sorting machine’ in horror industrial accident

The director of a skip company was killed after he became entangled in a "waste sorting machine" in a tragic industrial accident. Daniel Wenn, 35, was caught up in heavy machinery at the Norman Wenn Skip Hire site near Hockering, Norfolk. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene at 9am on Monday, The Sun reports. Witnesses reported seeing a large number of emergency services vehicles at the Sandy Lane Industrial Estate. Meanwhile, workers at a nearby firm stated they heard “screaming, shouting and then everything went quiet". The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has carried out an initial inquiry, which revealed Mr Wenn was “entangled in a trommel screen and sustained fatal traumatic injuries”. A trommel screen is described as rotating cylindrical drum, designed to separate waste materials according to their size. The family business was established by Mr Wenn's father Norman in 1985. Tributes have been paid to the victim, who was described as a "lovely guy" and "technical young lad", who was "very educated". Mr Wenn, who was a father himself, is believed to have assumed control over the company after his father retired. A woman said: “It’s just terrible news, especially because he was such a young person. When it’s a younger generation with a young family it’s just awful”. Mr Wenn was said to be a “1300cc stock car star" according to a Facebook post and had won races in East Anglia, as well as competing in world championships. Scores of people who knew Daniel have posted their condolences to his family. One person wrote: "It is so sad to hear of his passing at such a young age and I can only offer my extreme condolences to his family and friends whilst honouring the memory of a true hero of the raceways. R.I.P."
