Six years in prison, psychiatric treatment recommended in shocking child sex abuse case

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) recommended six years in prison and mandatory psychiatric treatment at a tbs facility against 60-year-old Roelof E. from Amersfoort, who is accused of sexually exploiting a boy for years. According to the prosecutor, the victim became addicted to GHB and ketamine and was used as a sex slave by E. and the 61-year-old fellow suspect Arie van der K. “This is the story of a boy’s life that completely fell apart over the course of ten years.”

According to the prosecution, E. came in contact with the victim via the computer game Minecraft. The boy was 11 or 12 years old at that time, according to the prosecutor.

Two years later, the two met with E., sexually abusing the boy for the first time. After an argument at home, the victim, then 15 years old, moved in with E. “The parents were pushed to the sidelines.” In the following years, things continued to worsen. According to the prosecution, drugs turned the victim into “a zombie.”

In addition, he always had to be available to be raped by E. and Van der K. It was also arranged by E. that the victim would meet up with other men, who would also rape him.

“He was a zombie who was good enough to have sex with,” said the prosecutor, while describing an act that can lead to an accusation of rape under Dutch criminal law. The OM also accused E. of abusing his role as a “foster father.”

E. is also accused of abusing his nephew and possessing child sex abuse videos. The suspects were arrested in September of last year.

In addition to prison and a measure of involuntary psychiatric treatment (tbs), the OM is also seeking a five-year contact ban with the victims. The case against co-defendant Van der K. will be heard in November; he is reportedly seriously ill and hospitalized.

For a third suspect, E.’s partner, the prosecution requested acquittal, arguing that he played a minimal role. “Of course, I raise my eyebrows at his role,” said the prosecutor. “It is reprehensible, but I cannot turn it into a criminal offense.”

E.’s attorney stated that his client wanted to help the victim. The suspect reportedly raised concerns with authorities on several occasions. He also allegedly mediated between the victim and his parents, according to his lawyer, who asked the court not to impose involuntary psychiatric treatment (tbs). E. has admitted to abusing the boy when he was a minor. “He regrets it,” said the lawyer.

The victim is now 21 years old, and his condition is “fragile,” his lawyer said on Tuesday during the first day of the trial. The court will deliver its verdict on December 2.
