Sisters hurled obscenities at gardaí in Tuam wedding brawl

TWO sisters who abused Gardaí in the aftermath of a Tuam wedding brawl had public order charges against them struck out when they made a €500 donation to the Little Blue Heroes Foundation which grants honorary Garda status to seriously ill children, among other activities. Rihanna McDonagh, 46, Glenbaun, Ballybane, Galway and Ellie McDonagh, 45, Glenbaun, Ballybane, Galway were before Tuam District Court charged with public order offences arising out of the brawl. Judge James Faughnan heard that Gardaí were called to the West Wing Restaurant in Tuam where 100 people were attending a wedding and where a row had broken out. A Garda witness said that in fairness to the two defendants, they were not involved in the main event, but they began roaring obscenities at Gardaí outside the venue. They were ordered to desist and when they did not, fixed fines were issued which the women failed to pay. When asked why this was so, one of them told Judge Faughnan that they had their own wedding plans at the time and were paying for dresses and the like. Judge Faughnan decided if they each made a €250 donation to the Little Blue Heroes charity he would strike out the charges. The sisters left the Court in the company of their father and returned later with the €500 and the charges were dismissed. This article is funded by Comisiún na Meán.
