Sisterhood and support in Estepona: Women unite to talk menopause

Women looking for support, friendship and open, honest conversation about menopause are invited to join the Menopause Sisterhood’s monthly meet-up in Estepona. The next gathering takes place on Thursday, November 13, from 10am to 12.30pm at Don Juan Tapes & Grill, Calle Azahar, El Paraiso in Benavista. The event offers a warm, welcoming space for women to share experiences, learn practical tips and talk openly about every aspect of menopause in a relaxed, friendly setting. Each meet-up includes expert guidance on managing symptoms, hormone health, sleep and lifestyle adjustments. There is advice on nutrition, exercise and stress management, as well as discussion about the physical and emotional changes that can come with menopause. Attendees also enjoy plenty of laughter and informal conversation over breakfast and coffee. Organiser Selina Mackenzie founded the group to make sure no woman has to face menopause alone. “There’s so much misinformation out there, and many of us were never taught what to expect,” she said. “This group is about community, understanding and empowerment. It’s a place where women can talk honestly, ask questions and find real support during both the perimenopausal and menopausal stages.” In Spain, the average age at natural menopause is around 51.7 years, compared with about 51 years in the UK, according to international research. Studies show that many women in Spain still have limited knowledge about menopause, with one national survey revealing gaps in understanding. Common symptoms such as hot flushes, poorer sleep, mood changes and joint pain affect large numbers, with one Spanish study reporting hot flushes in 45 to 56 per cent of women. The Menopause Sisterhood aims to break the stigma surrounding menopause, helping women approach this stage of life with confidence and positivity. Tickets cost €20 and include a continental breakfast served in the relaxed setting of Don Juan Tapes & Grill. For more information or to book, email selina@tre.radio
