Silent Hill f has multiple endings, as is par for the course for the series. The different endings serve to add replay value to the game, with each offering a mildly different experience and adding more context to the overall mystery of Ebisugaoka.
Silent Hill f specifically has five different endings: four regular ones, and the requisite UFO joke ending. You’ll have to play through the game all the way through at least three times in order to see all five endings. This spoiler-free guide will detail everything you need to do in order to unlock all five endings.
Ending #1: “Coming Home To Roost”
Do Nothing
This is the default ending for Silent Hill f. You don’t have to do anything special to unlock it; you’ll see the “Coming Home to Roost” ending automatically on your first playthrough, regardless of what choices you make.
On subsequent playthroughs, you’ll see this ending only if you don’t satisfy any of the conditions for other endings. In other words, you’ll have to try really hard to get it more than once.
Ending #2: “Fox’s Wedding”
NG+ Exclusive
For this ending (and every subsequent ending listed throughout this guide), you must be playing on New Game Plus. In other words, you’ll have to beat the game at least once, then start an entirely new playthrough, to unlock it.
Besides that, you must satisfy the following conditions on your second playthrough. We’ll describe each step in more detail below.
Don’t use any Red Capsules during this playthrough. These items heal you and restore your sanity.
Find and purify the Sacred Sword, or don’t pick up the Sacred Sword at all.
Jizo Shrine #1
This is an optional sidequest that you’ll either have to complete in full or ignore entirely in order to unlock the “Fox’s Wedding” ending. I’d recommend doing it at least once for the story relevance, ideally on your second run, although you can save it for a subsequent playthrough if you so desire.
This sidequest involves finding the Sacred Sword by leaving a series of offerings at Jizo Shrines. It’s basically an extended puzzle that takes you the entire length of the game to complete. In order to find the first shrine:
When you first appear at Hinako’s house, head outside and into the house just southeast, which should now be unlocked.
Check the coffee table in the living room to obtain Research Journal Photo #1, and a document that introduces you to the legend of the Sacred Sword.
Head upstairs and pick up the Balcony Key from the crate next to the doors on the far wall.
Open the doors to the balcony, and use it to enter the locked bedroom next door.
Pick up the Treasure Hunting Game Key and the Boy’s Diary from the dresser. Also, don’t forget to grab Packing Tips from the desk to expand your inventory space.
Go downstairs and into the kitchen, then the pantry.
Search the counter to find a small chest hidden at the back. Open it to obtain the Faded Bride Doll.
Go outside and walk down the hill.
Follow the path, then make a left towards the first house. Turn around; the Jizo Statue is behind a roadside bush.
Interact with the Jizo Statue to leave the Faded Bride Doll as an offering.
Jizo Shrine #2
During your second trip to Ebisugaoka, head to the graveyard at the location indicated above.
You’ll find the Rusted Flask lying on one of the grave markers on the left.
Facing the grave, turn left and follow the path through the torii gates.
Continue following the path as it curves around a low, rocky ridge to the left.
Circle the ridge until you find a ramp that allows you to climb up on it.
Walk forward and down another ramp to find the second Jizo Statue. Leave the Rusted Flask.
Jizo Shrine #3
On your third visit to Ebisugaoka, travel to the first map area depicted above, just outside the school.
Face the school and turn around to the left. You’ll encounter a short, barricaded road; walk up to the barricades to find the Broken Japanese Geta Sandal lying next to some wooden pallets.
Head back towards the school, then turn down the main road leading up to it. Take the stairs down and to the left, coming to a secluded area between houses.
Continue down another flight of stairs and across the bridge.
Turn right and climb the large flight of stone stairs. You should have now arrived at the second map point above.
Walk into the narrow alley beside the house to find another Jizo Shrine. Drop off the Geta Sandal.
Jizo Shrine #4
The fourth time you visit Ebisugaoka, travel to this first map point.
Walk around the house to the east; turn left around the corner to find a small wooden shed.
Lying outside the shed to the right, pick up the Cracked Hibachi Brazier.
Turn around and retrace your steps, keeping the house on your right.
Go past the house and follow the path, keeping straight.
Go right when the path forks, climbing the large stone staircase.
Continue to follow the straightforward path until you can make a left into a small alcove. This is the second map point above.
Drop the Cracked Hibachi Brazier at the Jizo Shrine here.
Find The Agura No Hotei-Sama
Before we head to the final Jizo Shrine and unlock the Sacred Sword, we’ll need to take a moment to obtain another item that’ll be vital in purifying it.
During your fifth visit to Ebisugaoka, once you’ve entered Shu’s house and traveled to the alternate dimension, head to the Main Hall — 2nd Floor area. See the map screenshot above.
Use your Focus ability in this room (LT/L2) to open a path behind the blood-red sigil on the western wall.
Follow the path until you reach a small building. Walk inside and pick up the Hotei-sama Sitting Cross-legged item from the central table.
Next, we’ll need to solve a quick puzzle. Check the rock on the path outside the building to read:
“He who seeks the crimson water which banishes evil…
When the shishi-odoshi strikes once, let the bell chime. Thrice shall the bells ring to speak the legends of this land.
Trapped under a great stone in the lake’s abyss lies a slumbering water dragon, born during the age of gods and sealed away by our ancestors.
Deprived of the water dragon’s spirit, the once lush great tree has met a withering fate.”
Look out into the middle of the water here to see the shishi-odoshi, a type of bamboo fountain that occasionally strikes the rock below it. Memorize that sound; you’ll need to listen for it, and strike a series of bells in time with it, in order to proceed to the next step. The bells are located as follows, and you’ll need to strike them in the correct order as the shishi-odoshi slaps the stone. They’re accompanied by lanterns that make them easier to see. The icons painted on each lantern correspond to subsequent lines of the poem.
Mountain/Stone: On the balcony of the building where you found Hotei-sama, overlooking the water.
Water: Leave the building and make a right, going over three bridges; hanging from a tree on the far end of the bridge.
Tree: Halfway across the middle bridge.
The water will drain, and that’s that for this puzzle.
Jizo Shrine #5
The final Jizo Shrine offering is only available during your fifth trip to Ebisugaoka, at the first map point indicated above.
Pick up Dad’s Old Kitchen Knife stuck into the nearby tree.
Head back down the path and make a left up the stone staircase.
Make another left, then follow the path when it forks right. Climb another staircase.
The final Jizo Shrine is right up here. Interact with it once again to leave the knife.
Find The Sacred Sword
Next, you’ll need to pick up the Sacred Sword itself. Travel to the giant divine tree (at the map point indicated above) and you should see a brief cutscene. Once it ends, you’ll have the Sacred Sword in hand.
Purify The Sacred Sword
Return to the area where you found the offering for Jizo Shrine #5 (Dad’s Old Kitchen Knife) and note the new path open to you. Go left.
Follow the path until you reach the shrine at the map point indicated above. If you successfully completed the Hotei-sama bell puzzle, the water should be red.
Interact with the water to purify the sword.
Nice and easy. Continue to play through the game as normal, and, if you did everything correctly, you should unlock the “Fox’s Wedding” ending.
Ending #3: “The Fox Wets Its Tail”
Don’t Purify The Sacred Sword
For “The Fox Wets Its Tail,” which is also a NG+ ending, complete the following:
Don’t use any Red Capsules during this playthrough.
Leave offerings at all five Jizo Shrines, and obtain the Sacred Sword. (See Ending #2.)
Do not purify the Sacred Sword.
See the section above for a full guide to finding all five Jizo Shrines and their requisite offerings, but do not follow the section on purifying the Sacred Sword. You won’t have to worry about finding the Agura no Hotei-sama, either.
If you’ve already completed “Fox’s Wedding,” you can complete this ending without having to start the game over completely (or vice versa).
Either way, make sure to save your game in a separate slot shortly before you purify the Sacred Sword. You can then resume your game from there on the next playthrough, make the opposite choice, and continue to the next ending.
Ending #4: “Ebisugaoka In Silence”
NG+2 Exclusive
“Ebisugaoka in Silence” has similarities to the other endings, but also has a couple of unique requirements:
Complete at least two other endings (with the exception of Ending #5) and start a NG+2 save file.
Don’t use any Red Capsules during this playthrough.
Find and purify the Sacred Sword. (See Ending #2.)
Offer the Brooch at the Ancient Jizo Statue.
Follow the steps in the Ending #2 section above to find and purify the Sacred Sword. Then, you’ll need to offer the Brooch to satisfy the final requirement for this ending.
Offer The Brooch To The Ancient Jizo Statue
You’ll receive the Brooch automatically as you play through the game.
Play through the game until your fifth visit to Ebisugaoka. After exploring Shu’s house, when you get the objective to go to Hinako’s house, head to the playground instead.
Go just north of the playground and kill the monster here. A path should open behind it.
Walk up the stairs, looking right; near the top, you’ll spy a hidden path. Follow it to find the Ancient Jizo Statue, and leave your Brooch as an offering.
That does it for Ending #4. Without spoiling anything, I will say that this route involves an extra final boss, and is generally considered Silent Hill f’s true ending.
Ending #5: “The Great Space Invasion!”
Not A “Full” Ending
As its name implies, this is the UFO ending of Silent Hill f, and also the easiest one to achieve. However, it’s not considered a “full” ending of the game for the purpose of Ending #4, and does mean missing out on the majority of the gameplay and story.
To see this ending, take the following steps:
Listen to the UFO Radio Broadcast.
Find three posters for The Great Space Invasion film series in order.
Read the Movie Review of The Great Space Invasion.
UFO Radio Broadcast
At the very beginning of the game, as you work your way through the canals, look to the right for a dumpster with a narrow corridor behind it. It should appear right after you beat the first enemy.
Go through the corridor, ducking beneath the metal beams.
This will take you into a small room, where you can listen to a radio to hear about the unexplained collapse of Magogawa Bridge.
The Great Space Invasion Poster
Next, we’ll have to find a series of movie posters around town. You’ll have to find them in this specific order. The first poster can be found after the Corridors, in the area southeast of Rinko’s house. You’ll have to move a barricade to get to it.
The Great Space Invasion 2 Poster
The next time you’re in the alleyways, look for the second poster in this location.
The Great Space Invasion 3 Poster
You can find the third movie poster immediately by heading back into the main part of town.
Movie Review of The Great Space Invasion
Finally, travel to the map point indicated above to find a Movie Review of The Great Space Invasion. Pick it up and read it; as soon as you’re finished, you’ll trigger the secret ending.
With that, you should have everything you need to view all five endings. Although you don’t have to experience all five for yourself, there’s more than achievement hunting on the line here. Each ending is an important chapter in the Silent Hill f mythos, and they’re all worth the time it takes to unlock them.
