Sid Kenyon takes a step back after decades of shaping events on USC’s campus

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) -After nearly five decades of service to the University of South Carolina, Sid Kenyon is stepping down from his role as general manager of Colonial Life Arena.
Kenyon, who began his career at USC at just 17 years old as an athletic trainer for the Gamecock football team, has played a pivotal role in shaping the university’s event and entertainment landscape. He transitioned into operations at the Carolina Coliseum before eventually taking over as general manager of Colonial Life Arena in 2015.
Over the years, Kenyon has overseen countless major events—from concerts and athletic competitions to national championship celebrations. His career spans the university’s move from the old Carolina Coliseum to the state-of-the-art Colonial Life Arena, where he became a familiar and respected figure behind the scenes.
“In general, the ones I’ve enjoyed the most are when we found out artists were super nice people—people who treated others well and just considered themselves to be just another person,” Kenyon said. “One of the real blessings I think I had was the opportunity to work in both realms—athletics and entertainment—and to be surrounded by what I call exceptional people.”
Though retiring from his full-time role, Kenyon isn’t leaving USC entirely. He will remain involved as a special projects manager and continue teaching in the Department of Sport and Entertainment Management.
