Siblings from Thoothukudi attempt to end life near Pollachi, two die

A 35-year-old man and his elder sister from Thoothukudi district died on Friday, a day after they attempted to end their lives along with their sister, allegedly due to debt, near Pollachi.

N. Muthukrishnan of Kadalaiyur, near Kovilpatti, in Thoothukudi and his sister K. Muthulakshmi, 45, died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) late on Friday. Their sister M. Meenakshi, 36, of Ettaiyapuram in Thoothukudi was battling for life at the hospital, said the police.

According to the police, the siblings moved to Dharapuram in Tiruppur district a week ago due to huge debt they incurred in business in Thoothukudi. They shifted themselves to a rented house at PKS Colony near Pollachi, a few days ago.

The police said that the three siblings attempted to end their lives on Thursday evening. After initial treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital, Pollachi, they were referred to CMCH.

Muthukrishnan and Muthulakshmi died late on Friday after their condition deteriorated and did not respond to treatment.
