Shreyas Iyer provided a crucial health update and thanked the fans for their love and support in his first statement following a critical injury he picked up during the third ODI against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground. While attempting a catch, Iyer had a nasty fall and suffered laceration of the spleen, which could have been serious if prompt medical attention had not been provided. Iyer, who looked in searing pain after the fall, managed to walk off the field, but reports claimed that his vital signs dropped to dangerous levels after which he was taken to a hospital, where tests detected internal bleeding. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and spent a few days before being declared out of danger. "I’m currently in recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I’m deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I’ve received - it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts," he wrote on Instagram. BCCI Stands Tall For Shreyas IyerThe BCCI was quick to react to Iyer's injury and ensured he got the best treatment. The board released a statement and confirmed that the star player will stay under observation of the BCCI medical team. “Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding on 25th October during the third ODI against Australia," BCCI later revealed in an official statement. “The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to monitor his progress," it added. When Will Shreyas Iyer Return? As per a report in Revsportz, Iyer underwent “interventional trans-catheter embolisation" to stop the internal bleeding. It’s a process wherein a small catheter is passed through the artery to block the bleeding area. The batter is likely to be out for at least two months, which rules him out of the home series against South Africa, and possibly also against New Zealand in January.
