Shedeur Sanders Announces Bye Week Plans After Endorsing Dillon Gabriel’s Benching at Browns

Halloween’s almost here, and Shedeur Sanders still hasn’t gotten any treats under center. Joe Flacco did his job and left the Cleveland Browns. Dillon Gabriel got the nod, but he’s been ineffective for the last four weeks. Still, heading into the bye week, Coach Kevin Stefanski is certain that Gabriel will start against the New York Jets in Week 9 and not Shedeur. That raises a question about what will Shedeur do during the bye week? Well, considering the Colorado Buffaloes’ product is dealing with a back issue, he decided and just confirmed that he’s staying in Cleveland and not returning to Boulder over the bye week. “I’m not coming to CU homecoming. I wish I could though. I got treatment out here. I gotta get ready. Big ready,” Shedeur said during a live stream. As a result, the Browns placed the rookie on the injured reserve, making him inactive for the game. Fast forward to now, and the quarterback has decided not to go home and stay in Cleveland for his back treatment. During the live stream, when a fan asked for an update on his health, Shedeur admitted that he’s trying to get back on the active roster. “Straight bro, treatment every day,” Shedeur said during the October 29 livestream. “We getting back, we getting back, going again, back on top, bro.” That said, Shedeur hasn’t locked down the starting quarterback job yet, but one thing’s for sure: the Colorado standout fully intends to start in his rookie season. Gabriel has lost three of his first four NFL starts, with the latest being an ugly 32-13 defeat to the Patriots. As expected, the calls to start Shedeur Sanders after the bye week have already begun. Browns beat writer Brad Stainbrook recently reported that the rookie QB “liked” an IG post calling for Cleveland to start him against the Jets. The reporter took to his ‘X’ handle to share the news, writing, “Browns QB Shedeur Sanders liked my Instagram post where I called for the team to start the former Colorado quarterback following the bye week.” Take a look at the message Stainbrook is talking about: “I’ve seen enough of Dillon Gabriel,” Stainbrook said. “It’s time for the Browns to start getting Shedeur Sanders ready after the bye week. Give him two weeks to take time, settle in, and make his first NFL start. You didn’t draft him to sit forever… and this offense needs a spark.” The Browns expected Gabriel to flip things up after benching Flacco. However, things haven’t been on their side in the last four weeks. Still, Stefanski and his crew are expected to start with Gabriel, while Shedeur will watch from the sidelines. The rookie wants a shot. Will he get one or not? That’s the question.
