The “Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels is about to experience some real heartbreak, and this time it’s coming from his orthopedic surgeon’s office, not the squared circle. Shawn Michaels, recently dropped some news that’ll make any wrestling fan wince. During a recent appearance on “Nightcap” with Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed he’s scheduled for double knee replacement surgery within the month.

“I have had my back fused. I’ve had my shoulder replaced. I got two knees I’m getting replaced in probably a month, and I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world,” Michaels said with the kind of casual tone most people use to discuss their grocery list.

The current Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative for NXT has essentially become a walking medical textbook. Fused back? Check. Replaced shoulder? Check. Double knee replacement on the horizon? Double check. At this point, Michaels might qualify for frequent flyer miles at the local hospital.

Despite his body reading like a casualty report from a particularly brutal war, Michaels maintains he has zero regrets about his career choices. During his prime, he was working a staggering 286 days per year on the road. Even when he scaled back to what WWE generously called a “part-time schedule,” he was still clocking 150 days annually.

“I knew the price that was going to come along with it,” Michaels explained. “When I worked on the road we did 286 days. When I got a part-time schedule it was 150 days. I enjoyed every minute of it.”

Sure, Shawn. Nothing says “enjoying every minute” quite like having your spine welded together and your joints replaced with artificial parts. But hey, who are we to argue with a man who made a career out of superkicking people into next week?

From Ring General to NXT Commander

These days, instead of delivering Sweet Chin Music to unsuspecting opponents, Michaels is busy shaping the next generation of WWE superstars as the head honcho of NXT. The brand has become something of a revolving door for talent, with Michaels recently noting that NXT is unique because they “build stars in order to lose them” to the main roster.
