Minutes from Orchard Road, Singapore’s buzzy and energetic shopping street, sits a garden oasis with 15 lush acres of manicured gardens. The grounds of the Shangri-La Singapore are home to over 133,000 tropical plants, including vibrant flowering ginger, frangipani, heliconia, and spider lilies. Trees heavy with ripe durian, mangos, rambutans, and chiku fruit dot the landscape. Waterfalls, aquatic plants, and hundreds of orange and gold koi fish fill picturesque ponds. And The Orchid — a striking 23-foot tall open greenhouse designed to commemorate the hotel’s 45th anniversary — proudly displays 32 varieties of Singapore’s delicate national flower.

The sprawling garden property is the flagship hotel from the Shangri-La group. Built in 1971, it’s expanded to a three-tower resort with nearly 800 rooms in the decades since. But it’s only improved upon its refined interiors, 5-star service, luxurious amenities, and relaxing, retreat-like sensibility in the midst of bustling Singapore.

The Tower Wing pays homage to Shangri-La’s namesake utopia with five design elements: wind, water, stone, wood, and metal. Renovated in 2017, the wing features artworks by notable Asian artists, including Tree Canopy, designed with thousands of stylised leaves by Hirotoshi Sawada. On the tower’s ninth floor, five whimsical suites — in castle, space, underwater, safari and treetop themes — are designed for young families.
