A spine-tingling new art exhibition opens its doors in Consett this week, just in time for Halloween. Shades of Shadow, hosted by Consett Heart at the historic Old Ambulance Hall on John Street, began on Monday 27th October at 11am and runs until Saturday 8th November. This immersive experience has transformed the upstairs of the Consett Heart Centre into an eerie, atmospheric world celebrating the darker side of creativity. Fifteen Artists, One Chilling Experience The exhibition features the work of 15 local artists, including sculpture, painting, and original audio pieces that bring a haunting dimension to the space. Each room has been curated to evoke unease and curiosity, perfect for the Halloween season. Vonni Hardman of Consett Heart says: “We’ve never done anything quite like this before. It’s bold, strange, unsettling – and people are going to love it.” Monster Mash Art Session for Families Families are invited to join a special Monster Mash Art drop-in session on Thursday 30th October from 11.30am to 1.30pm, led by ATOMS Education CIC. Kids can create spooky masterpieces in a real art gallery setting, with the session offered on a pay as you feel basis. Spooky Cabaret and Open Mic Night Consett Heart’s ever-popular Cabaret, Open Mic and Karaoke Night takes a spooky turn on Saturday 1st November from 7.30pm to 11pm. Expect everything from chilling poetry to ghostly ballads, with a full lineup of local musicians, comedians and performers. As always, entry is pay as you feel. More Than Just an Art Show This event is the latest in a series of cultural offerings from Consett and District Heritage and Arts CIC, the volunteer-led organisation behind Consett Heart. Housed in what was once the town’s St John’s Ambulance Hall, the venue has become a vital hub for arts and heritage in the region. With weekly arts and crafts groups, social nights, board games, exhibitions and live performances, it offers a much-needed alternative to the traditional pub scene. Community groups and organisations are also encouraged to hire the space to help keep the venue thriving.
