Sex Education star Aimee Lou Wood will play George Harrison's wife Pattie Boyd, as Sam Mendes gets to work on a new series of films based on each member of The Beatles . The ambitious project will see the Skyfall director retell the stories of the Fab Four in the linked movies, currently titled The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event. Joining White Lotus star Aimee, 31, is Irish Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan, 31, who will portray Paul McCartney's beloved wife Linda, who later joined his post-Beatles band Wings. Japanese actress Anna Sawai, 33, will play John Lennon's wife Yoko Ono, while Ringo Starr's other half Maureen Cox will be portrayed by British Tracy Beaker star Mia McKenna-Bruce, 28. Saltburn star Barry Keogan, 33, will play Ringo Starr, while Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn, 31, will play George Harrison. Normal People's Paul Mescal will play McCartney, while The King's Man actor Harris Dickinson will complete the line up, playing John Lennon. Announcing the female stars of his new project on Saturday, Mendes said: "Maureen, Linda, Yoko and Pattie are four fascinating and unique figures in their own right, and I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to persuade four of the most talented women working in film today to join this amazing adventure." All four films are currently slated for release in April 2028, with Deadline reporting that Mendes described The Beatles as the "most significant band" of all time. He told the outlet: “I had been trying to do a film for years, but I finally gave up." He said he felt their “story was too big for one film”, adding that a TV series wasn't right for it. He said: "There had to be a way to tell the epic story for a new generation. I can assure you there is still plenty left to explore and I think we found a way to do that." Meanwhile, the outlet also reported that Tony Award winner Jez Butterworth, Oscar winner Peter Straughan and BAFTA and Tony winner Jack Thorne will write the screenplays. It is not yet confirmed if they will be collaborating on all films or whether they will be working on their own productions. Mendes said in a statement: "I’m honoured to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies." Neal Street Productions partner Pippa Harris added: "We intend this to be a uniquely thrilling, and epic cinematic experience: four films, told from four different perspectives which tell a single story about the most celebrated band of all time." Ringo gave the project the seal of approval writing on social media previously: "We all support the Sam Mendes movie project. Yes, indeed." Commenting on Keoghan being cast to play him in the biopic, Ringo also told Entertainment Tonight : “I think he’s great, I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons. I hope not too many."
