Severe weather threat: Embedded thunderstorms, winds to 60 mph

Parts of Michigan saw a soaking rain on Saturday – as well as a pretty good lightning show as storms rolled through in the evening. Today, we’ve got more scattered showers moving across the state.
Some of today’s showers will have embedded thunderstorms, and while the chance for severe weather is low, it’s still there. Severe storms could flash across Michigan today, especially in the 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. time window for the Lower Peninsula. And damaging wind gusts could increase to 60 mph.
Here’s a look at how much rain fell in parts of Michigan on Saturday:
Here is the statewide National Weather Service forecast for today:
We should prepare for scattered showers and thunderstorms today, with the potential for dense fog overnight that could significantly reduce visibility.
The National Weather Service forecasts widespread showers with occasional thunderstorms across Michigan today, particularly this afternoon and evening. The primary hazard will be potential damaging winds, with the Storm Prediction Center issuing a marginal risk for severe weather. Temperatures will remain in the upper 50s to low 70s, with mostly cloudy skies.
Dense fog is expected tonight and again Monday night, with visibility potentially dropping to one-quarter mile in some areas. This could create hazardous conditions for morning commuters. Residents should plan extra travel time and use caution when driving.
The unsettled weather pattern continues through Monday and Tuesday, with ongoing chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Precipitation totals could range from a few hundredths of an inch to potentially three-quarters of an inch in some locations.
By midweek, weather conditions are expected to stabilize. Temperatures will remain near seasonal averages, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s and 60s.
The extended forecast suggests a predominantly dry pattern developing later in the week, with minimal rainfall expected from Wednesday through next weekend.
