Seth Rollins pulled off the Ruse of the Century at SummerSlam 2025 by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase on CM Punk. Punk defeated Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship and held the title for just few minutes when Rollins’ music played in the arena. He teased cashing in the briefcase before taking a walk back towards the backstage area. Rollins shocked the WWE Universe by dropping his crutches and then rushing towards the ring to cash in his briefcase. Rollins faked the injury and shocked everyone by winning the title. In this age of social media, Rollins managed to keep the fake injury angle a secret. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Rollins revealed that his former rival, John Cena, also reached out to him regarding the injury. Talking about Cena’s reaction, Rollins said: “John reached out and I had to do my best to wiggle around it. But John and I are cut from the same cloth, so when he saw the final outcome, he was very happy, he was proud in a way.” Rollins faked getting injured during his match against LA Knight at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12. The match came to an abrupt end after Knight hit him with his finisher. Rollins stayed away from the WWE TV during the injury angle. Becky Lynch, his wife, did her best to make fans believe that he is really injured and shared a video of him walking on crutches. Rollins entered SummerSlam on crutches and went home with the World Heavyweight Championship. He successfully defended his title in the main event of Clash in Paris. Rollins will now team up with Becky against Punk and his wife, AJ Lee, at WWE Wrestlepalooza. His title won’t be on the line. Rollins’ next title defence could take place at WWE Crown Jewel, scheduled for October 11 in Perth, Australia.
