Equity market witnessed a sharp rebound on Wednesday with Sensex climbing over 420 points and Nifty 50 reclaiming 26,000 mark as investor sentiment received a boost from favourable global cues, driven by hopes for a forthcoming rate cut by the US Federal Reserve and trade deal with the US, fresh foreign inflows and broad-based buying interest. The benchmark indices traded near day’s high. Sensex traded 411.44 points or 0.49 per cent higher at 85,039.60 at 1.25 pm, and Nifty 50 soared by 140.65 points or 0.54 per cent to 26,076.85, nearing 26,100 mark. Nifty had earlier scaled over 26,200 level in September 2024. The overall market breadth was strongly positive, reflecting broad-based buying across sectors. Out of 3,103 stocks traded on the National Stock Exchange at the time of writing, 1,905 advanced while 1,089 declined and 109 remained unchanged. Both midcap and smallcap indices traded with modest gains. A majority of indices traded in the positive territory, with oil & gas and metal indexes leading the chart with over 2 per cent uptick. Meanwhile, financial services and auto stocks dipped. The asset‐management space faced headwinds as stocks of major fund houses came under pressure following regulatory concerns about proposed fee-structure changes by the SEBI around expense ratios and brokerage limits. Top gainers & losers intraday NTPC, Adani Ports, Power Grid, JSW Steel and Adani Enterprises led the gainers of Nifty 50 pack, while Eternal, Bharat Electronics, L&T, M&M and Bajaj twins - Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv depreciated the most. A total of 79 stocks, including IOC, Laurus Labds, GM Breweries, M&M Financial, Jindal Steel, JSW Steel, CUB and Bharti Airtel, touched their 52-week highs, whereas 39 hit 52-week lows, indicating bullish momentum in several counters. Additionally, 70 stocks were locked in their upper circuit, compared to only 16 in the lower circuit, underscoring the dominance of buyers in today’s session. Vodafone Idea, Suzlon, SAIL, Reliance Power and Adani Power featured among the major active equities by volume in today’s trade. Midcap & smallcap movers Under the midcap segment, SAIL, M&M Financial Services, Adani Total Gas, HUDCO and Suzlon Energy led the gainers with 3-6 per cent increase. Motilal Oswal OFS, HDFC AMC, 360 One WAM, Aditya Birla Capital and Voltas declined the most. Motilal OFS dragged nearly 8 per cent. Smallcap stocks Reliance Power, Adtiya Birla Real Estate, MRPL and NBCC soared 4-7 per cent, while CreditAccess, KFin Tech, Anand Rathi, CAMS and Star Health fell 3-6 per cent. Blue Dart Express, Adani Green Energy and Varun Beverages led the gainers list on the BSE, rallying 10-14 per cent, following September quarter results. Cartrade Tech shares witnessed profit booking following yesterday’s gains. L&T, Coal India, Brigade, Radico, CG Power, HPCL, United Breweries, PB Fintech, NTPC Green and BHEL shares will remain in focus today due to Q2 results.
