Senior Magistrates Are Being Transferred

Senior Magistrates Are Being Transferred The Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC) has responded to public concerns over the recent transfer of senior magistrates across Belize. In a statement, the JLSC described the moves as routine, saying they are “in keeping with Regulation 128 of the Judicial and Legal Services Regulations.” Magistrates are usually moved after serving two years in one location. While most transfers happen between July and August, they can also take place at other times if there’s an urgent need. The Commission explained that senior magistrates were placed in key areas to help improve how justice is delivered in district courts and to support junior officers. These transfers are part of broader efforts to ensure that judicial services remain efficient, fair, and accessible to all Belizeans. “The Commission underscores that its decisions are guided by the Rule of Law, good governance, and the ongoing need to improve access to justice and delivery of justice in the districts,” the statement read.
