People Are Absolutely Losing It Over This Senator's Shutdown Comments, And The Reactions Are Brutal AF Not sure this is really the message the opposition party should be sending. Hot Topic 🔥 Full coverage and conversation on Politics Last night, the Senate voted to end the government shutdown. Eight Senate Democratic Caucus members defected from their party and joined with Republicans to advance a funding bill. People are pretty pissed about the Democratic Senators caving on the shutdown. One of those senators, Angus King of Maine, attempted to explain himself on MSNBC's Morning Joe earlier today — and it has not gone over well at all. "Well, Joe," he began, "you have to go back to what the strategy was at the beginning of the shutdown. There were two goals, both of which I support." "One was standing up to Donald Trump; the other was getting some resolution on the ACA premium tax credit issue. The problem was the shutdown wasn't accomplishing either goal, and there was practically — well, there was zero likelihood that it was going to." Exhibit A is what he's done with SNAP and SNAP benefits across the country." "Oh, by the way, Joe, you're gonna love this. Guess who's getting paid during the shutdown? Not the park rangers or air traffic controllers — the ICE agents. Under special law under that big awful bill that they passed last summer, the ICE agents are being paid, nobody else is." "So, standing up to Donald Trump didn't work." You can see the full video here. @atrupar / MSNBC / Via x.com Needless to say, people were not thrilled with King's comments. "Jesus fucking Christ. Resign. Genuinely just fucking resign," said one person. "Bold choice going with a strategy of 'we are losers.'" "'We are weaklings who will cave for nothing' v good messaging, voters will love this." "IT WAS LITERALLY WORKING YOU FUCKING LOSERS." And finally, this picture that says a thousand words: Thoughts?
