Senate Leader Bamidele Backs Oyebanji’s Continuity for Ekiti 2026 Election

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, citing the benefits of continuity seen in Lagos State. Speaking during a ‘Thank You’ visit to APC State Executive Committee members in Ado Ekiti on Friday, Bamidele emphasized the need for a rancour-free primary and genuine party reconciliation. Bamidele, who will contest as a delegate in Saturday’s APC Delegates’ Congress, noted that the October 27 primaries will affirm Oyebanji as the party’s candidate for the June 20, 2026 poll. The APC had earlier named Oyebanji as its consensus candidate after Mrs. Atinuke Olayemi Omolayo withdrew, and two other aspirants, Kayode Ojo and Abimbola Olawumi, were disqualified. Highlighting Oyebanji’s achievements despite Ekiti’s limited resources, Bamidele urged critics to witness the state’s development firsthand. “This is not Rivers or Akwa Ibom. With limited resources, our governor has done well,” he said, rejecting expectations of “magic” from the governor.Addressing protests at the APC national secretariat in Abuja over the governorship issue, Bamidele called for continued outreach and reconciliation. He stressed that the consensus process, mandated by the party’s constitution, requires delegate affirmation on Monday to ratify Oyebanji’s candidacy, ensuring a transparent and peaceful primary.
