By Edwin N. Khakie Bong County Senator Prince Kermue Moye, Sr., has donated two fuel drums (about 150 gallons) and US$500 to Phebe Hospital to support its upcoming major surgical outreach program. Phebe, Bong County, October 28, 2025: Presenting the donation on the Senator’s behalf, Mr. Nuwoe Kellen, Chief of Office Staff, said the contribution is intended to ease logistical constraints as the hospital prepares to welcome a team of Liberian and international medical professionals for a large-scale surgical campaign. “The Senator has asked us to make a small contribution of two drums of fuel and five hundred U.S. dollars to assist with logistics for the upcoming surgical exercise,” Kellen explained. “Healthcare for our people is non-negotiable, and Senator Moye remains deeply committed to supporting those who dedicate their lives to saving others.” According to Kellen, Senator Moye has maintained close collaboration with Liberian doctors under Doctors Without Borders Liberia, many of whom hail from Bong County. He said these partnerships have been instrumental in extending life-saving medical services to vulnerable populations across the country. He pointed to previous successful medical outreach efforts in Gbarnga, Palala, and Sannoyea, describing them as part of the Senator’s broader vision to expand access to quality healthcare, particularly in remote rural areas where medical resources remain scarce. “This is not a one-time gesture,” Kellen emphasized. “It’s part of the Senator’s ongoing plan to strengthen community healthcare delivery and empower Liberian medical professionals through partnerships and outreach.” Kellen further conveyed the Senator’s appreciation to Dr. Ayun K. Cassell, President of the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), for his leadership in coordinating collaborative medical initiatives. He reaffirmed Senator Moye’s commitment to continued partnership, resource mobilization, and direct support to ensure the success of the upcoming outreach. Upon receiving the donation, Dr. Cassell hailed Senator Moye for his sustained humanitarian support and dedication to advancing healthcare in Bong County. He described the donation as “a true reflection of genuine concern for the well-being of his people.” Dr. Cassell also acknowledged the ongoing collaboration between the LMDC, Kappa Care, and visiting professors under the Dutch Surgical Society, who are working together to enhance surgical capacity-building and medical training in Liberia. “These are professors with decades of experience and over fifty published research papers,” Dr. Cassell noted. “They are here not just to operate, but to train our local doctors so that Liberia can sustain its own medical excellence for generations to come.” Also speaking was Dr. Minnie Ricks, Medical Director of Phebe Hospital, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to Senator Moye for his generosity and patriotic spirit. “It’s always inspiring when leaders give back to the communities they come from,” Dr. Ricks said. “What Senator Moye has done is commendable. We also appreciate Dr. Cassell, Kappa Care, and our international medical partners for coming together to make a real difference in the lives of our people.” The upcoming surgical and medical outreach, to be hosted at Phebe Hospital in the coming weeks, will provide free surgeries, consultations, and essential medical services to hundreds of underprivileged citizens from Bong County and neighboring regions. Senator Moye, who has consistently supported initiatives in healthcare, education, and youth empowerment, reaffirmed his commitment to improving public health infrastructure and ensuring that quality healthcare remains accessible to all Liberians, especially those in hard-to-reach communities. “Health is the foundation of development,” Senator Moye said in a message through his office. “We will continue to stand by institutions like Phebe Hospital that serve as lifelines for our people.” The Senator’s gesture adds to a growing wave of community-driven health interventions aimed at strengthening Liberia’s medical system and improving the quality of life for ordinary citizens.
