KALAMAZOO, MI — The city of Kalamazoo reelected David Anderson to serve a fourth term as mayor on Tuesday, Nov. 4. According to unofficial totals with all 19 precincts reporting, Anderson won with 6,467 votes, followed by Chris Glasser with 2,706 and Robert Gray with 829. Anderson has served as a city commissioner for 12 years, vice mayor for two years and mayor for the last six years. Meanwhile, 10 Kalamazoo residents were in the running for three seats on the City Commission. Only one incumbent, Stephanie Hoffman, was among them. Hoffman was reelected for a second four-year term on the commission. Drew Duncan and Jacqueline Slaby won the seats vacated by former commissioners Qianna Decker and Don Cooney. He serves on the People’s Food Co-op and Can-Do Kalamazoo boards, and chairs the Candidates and Campaigns committee for the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party. Slaby, 32, is also new to local government. They are a Vine neighborhood resident with an educational background in city planning. They previously lived in Battle Creek, where they served as the youngest trustee elected to the Board of Education in 2021. Slaby also has experience working with neighborhood associations, residents and city departments as a Kalamazoo Neighborhood Activator. The newly-elected mayor and commissioners will be sworn in during a regular city commission meeting on Monday, Nov. 17.
