Following the blaze that swept through a Hilo hotel last Wednesday, detectives have finally checked off the last name from their list of those initially missing. The Hawai’i Island Police located the second person who was previously unaccounted for, according to an update shared by the Hawai'i Police Department. This individual, whose name has not been released, apparently was not on the scene at the time of the fire, showing up later in good health. The incident, which resulted in one fatality, is still shrouded in questions regarding its cause. Having returned to the scene later on the morning of the fire was fortunate for the individual found unharmed, but an autopsy was scheduled for today to offer some solace in identifying the decedent. The Area I Criminal Investigation Section is handling the ongoing inquest into the fire's origin and circumstances leading up to the tragedy, as reported by the Hawai'i Police Department. Authorities are asking anyone with information to help with the investigation. Tips can be shared with Detective Robert Kamau Jr. at (808) 961-2384 or Robert.Kamau@hawaiipolice.gov. You can also call the department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311 if you know anything about the incident, as per the Hawai'i Police Department.
