Seahawks Get Final Update on WR Cooper Kupp Ahead of Commanders Game

The Seattle Seahawks are set to return to action after enjoying their bye week in Week 8, and they will get another primetime matchup, as they are set to square off against the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football. Considering how many injuries the Commanders are dealing with, the Seahawks are entering this game as the favorite to come out on top. And yet, Seattle doesn’t exactly have a clean bill of health heading into this game either. Several offensive playmakers are beat up, with one of them being veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who is dealing with heel and hamstring injuries currently. And according to the latest update on his injury status, it doesn’t sound like he’s going to be able to suit up for the Seahawks in Week 9. Cooper Kupp Not Expected to Play for Seahawks in Week 9 A big reason for Seattle’s success early in the 2025 campaign has been its offensive production. There were questions about how this unit would look with Sam Darnold being signed to a big-money deal in free agency to come in and be their new starting quarterback, but he has looked fantastic, thanks in large part to his budding connection with Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Another new face on offense is Kupp, who was scooped up in free agency alongside Darnold after he was released by the Los Angeles Rams. Kupp isn’t putting the sort of numbers he was racking up during his prime, but he’s been a solid secondary playmaker behind Smith-Njigba, as he’s caught 24 passes for 293 yards and a touchdown so far. The most important thing with Kupp has been his ability to stay healthy, which hasn’t always been the case for him throughout his career. However, he picked up a couple of injuries at practice throughout the week that threw his status for the Seahawks’ upcoming game into doubt. Sure enough, reports indicate that Kupp isn’t expected to play against the Commanders due to his heel and hamstring injuries. “Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp, listed as questionable for Sunday night due to a heel and hamstring injury, is unlikely to play vs. the Commanders, per source,” Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Sunday morning. Who Will Fill in for Cooper Kupp on Seahawks’ Offense? Kupp’s potential absence is already a problem in its own right, but making the situation even worse is the fact that Seattle is already dealing with injuries at the wide receiver position. Depth options Jake Bob and Dareke Young have both already been ruled out for this game, meaning that Tory Horton, Cody White, and Ricky White III are the only other options at wide receiver behind Smith-Njigba. Darnold and Smith-Njigba have been on the same page from the get-go this season, so that shouldn’t change just because Kupp is out, but it could make things more difficult for them when it comes to linking up in the passing game. It will obviously be worth checking in on Kupp’s final status before kickoff, but it looks like the Seahawks could end up being quite shorthanded on offense for this one.
