Screambox Promotes Tony Wash to Director of Programming

Tony Wash is making some big moves in the horror space. Wash has been promoted to director of programming and original productions at Screambox, per an announcement from the company. He previously held the position of channel manager. Screambox is the horror-themed streaming service owned by Cineverse and curated by horror company Bloody Disgusting. “We’re excited to have Tony Wash at the helm as we enter a bold new era of original horror for Screambox,” Tom Owen, the VP of network strategy at Cineverse, said in a statement. “The slate he’s guiding has something to terrify and delight every horror fan, and will help shape Screambox into a truly distinctive, Bloody Disgusting-driven experience.“ “As a lifelong horror fan, my role is to create a curated experience for horror fans with Screambox’s collection of exciting exclusives and originals, as well as bringing together awesome catalog titles from decades past for a one-stop shop of all things scary,” Wash said in a statement. “I will be tapping into my extensive network of independent filmmakers to acquire the freshest horror stories out there, and will be overseeing the production of various Screambox Originals to help boost the platform’s slate of content only available on Screambox.” Per his official bio, Wash “has spent most of his life in the Chicagoland area. In 2005, during his last semester at Tom Savini’s FX school in Pittsburgh, Tony began production on his choose your own adventure horror feature, ‘It’s My Party and I’ll Die If I Want To.’ Receiving numerous festival awards upon its release, followed by rave reviews from critics and fans alike, ‘It’s My Party’ solidified Wash and his company, Scotchworthy Productions, as a reliable source for quality independent horror. Focusing on high-end production value and award-winning practical special FX, Scotchworthy Productions has been doling out frame after frame of gory delight for 20 years now. Wash has worked with such notable actors as Sid Haig, Shenae Grimes-Beech, Izabella Miko, Rachel Melvin, Tom Savini and Joe Nunez, and his work has been distributed across the world by companies including Sony Home Entertainment. “Most recently, Tony helped produce 2020’s ‘The Stylist,’ and, in 2022, the features ‘Black Mold’ and ‘Curse of the Sin Eater,'” the bio continues. “In 2020, Bloody Disgusting partnered with Wash to provide their linear channel Screambox TV with a new original series, ‘Bloody Bites.’ ‘Bloody Bites’ gives independent horror filmmakers an avenue to worldwide exposure through the #1 source for online horror and is consistently the top-performing title on Screambox TV. With four features and a number of shorts, including the 2014 SXSW Midnight favorite ‘The Muck,’ under his belt, Tony Wash looks forward to utilizing his love of horror and his passion for filmmaking to help bolster Screambox’s curation.” In addition to recent Screambox originals such as 2024’s “Street Trash” remake and “Terrifier 3,” as well as this year’s series “The Trouble with Tessa,” upcoming productions include a Ted Raimi talk show, the upcoming “Silent Night, Deadly Night” remake and a new season of anthology series “Bloody Bites.” The latter includes a contest in which fans can submit their idea for a short film featuring the Bloody Disgusting mascot, Buzzkill, in order to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary. Additionally, Cineverse announced this week a partnership with Clarion Events’ LeftField Media, which will result in the launch of Bloody Disgusting’s first horror fan convention, set to take place in Fall 2026. In addition to his promotion, Wash recently debuted the pilot for his new series “Better Luck Than Chuck” at the Provo, Utah, festival FilmQuest. Wash created the horror movie trivia series alongside his wife, Meredith, and they are currently seeking distribution for the already-shot six-episode first season.
