The very first trailer for Scream 7 was recently released. However, not all reactions to the first look were positive. For many former fans of the franchise, the trailer brought back some bitter memories regarding former star Melissa Barrera's departure. Barrera was fired from Scream 7 on November 23, 2023, after she made several social media posts about the Israel-Gaza conflict. The backlash she faced over her opinions eventually led to Spyglass Media Group completely dropping her from the franchise. This angered many viewers, many of whom defended her comments. And, now that the first trailer has dropped, fans are preparing for a second round of retaliation. Spyglass explained in a statement that Barrera was let go because the nature of her comments wouldn't be tolerated by them, as they considered them to be spiteful and in poor taste. A spokesperson said that the studio has “zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.” People began voice their opinions on social media, some criticizing Barrera's absence, while others promoted her other projects. One fan on X encouraged people to snub the upcoming slasher and support other horror movies, "Boycott Scream 7 and support Scary Movie 6 instead." Another X user advertised Barrera's horror comedy movie, Your Monster. They wrote, "Anyways YOUR MONSTER (2024) starring Melissa Barrera is streaming on HBO Max and Hulu." Meanwhile, someone else reminded people on X of her new science fiction TV series, The Copenhagen Test, that will be released at the end of 2025. "Reminder to everyone: The Copenhagen Test starring Simu Liu and Melissa Barrera is set to premiere on December 27th." The newest installment of the hit Wes Craven franchise will see the return of Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, Neve Campbell, Scott Foley, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. It will also feature several new faces, including Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Anna Camp, Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Mark Consuelos, and Ethan Embry.
