Scottish singer-songwriter gets into the black vodka business

Independent Scottish singer-songwriter Callum Beattie has launched his own premium black vodka, INDI. The Edinburgh-born singer songwriter has a new album of the same name coming out at the end of January 2026, and ahead of that a sell-out show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on November 22. The vodka is the latest product of the creative partnership between Callum and his manager Dave Rogers, who teamed up with Scots drinks manufacturers MaverX to create the ‘incredibly’ smooth black vodka. Callum said: “I didn’t know much about making spirits but I felt I had plenty of experience in that area, on the other side. “It seemed like a cool thing to do and it is something we fancied getting involved in, but only if it was genuine, not just an endorsement on a bottle. “We went along and really were part of the whole thing, on taste and look and the whole brand too,” said Beattie. “So it’s genuinely the drink I would want to have myself – I love how it changes colour in the glass with ice. And it’s so smooth it’s really good straight too.” Rogers added: “We love creating things, from music to art to clothes to communities to charity projects and connections. “The opportunity came along to make our own Scottish spirit and it was one of those things we had talked about for years – we have all sorts of crazy ideas for things we can do together outside of music. “The timing felt good because the record was done and we thought it would be cool to have our own vodka for all those Christmas nights out and after parties around the shows.” The vodka is black in the bottle but shifts when poured over ice, a twist to make it stand out from the crowd. Graeme Clark of MaverX said: “This vodka was crafted on Scotland’s east coast, at a specialist small-batch distillery. Working with the distilling team there allowed Callum to lean into the kind of refined, independent spirit he was after: something high-quality, approachable, yet uncompromising. “The collaboration process involved Callum and Dave bouncing ideas off each other and working side-by-side with the distillers. “Callum was very clear what he didn’t want—no unnecessary gimmicks, no harsh edge, no compromise on drinkability. He insisted it should stand equally well neat or in a high-end mixed serve.”
