A Scot has been waiting for NHS treatment for seven years after languishing on a waiting list . The patient has been waiting for 2495 days since 2018 for ear, nose and throat care . The shocking wait comes as one in six Scots are waiting to be seen by the health service under the SNP Government . In his Daily Record column, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar also revealed a patient waiting six and a half years for gynaecology. Another sick Scot waited over six years for general surgery. According to the new figures, a child has also been waiting more than five and a half years for paediatric surgery. Sarwar wrote: "This is incompetence at a grand scale." Health Secretary Neil Gray said: “We’re laser focused on cutting waiting times and we’re making progress - 64.6% of new outpatient appointments were seen within 12 weeks last quarter, and over 40% of those still waiting have waited less than 12 weeks. “Over £110 million is being invested this year to accelerate progress, helping deliver more than 213,000 extra procedures and appointments across the NHS. “We have allocated over £8.8 million to Health Boards to target long waits for gynaecology treatment and expect this to deliver significant improvements to the waiting list backlog in the coming year through waiting list initiatives and recruitment. “At the same time, we are continuing to press the UK Government on concerns raised by the healthcare sector - including the impact of rising employer national insurance contributions and increasingly restrictive migration policies which has seen the number of Health and Care Worker visas issued to migrant workers in Caring Personal Service Occupations fall by 88%.” This is a breaking news story - we'll bring you updates, pictures and video as it happens.
