A Linwood mum says she is outraged after a member of staff at her son’s school allegedly mocked the way he entered the building. Carolann Denvir claims she was left speechless by the apparent incident involving 15-year-old Logan in March. An investigation into the allegation, which concluded last month, failed to uncover any wrongdoing. The teenager, who has autism , was undergoing a period of reintegration to the town’s Riverbrae School after an extended period away. This was because of a disagreement between the family and the school in 2023 when Carolann was arrested due to allegations of abuse towards Logan. Police investigated and it’s understood found no evidence to take the matter further. In order to get Logan into school, keep him calm and provide as much normality as possible, staff would meet him at the family’s car on arrival while Carolann walked into the building and exited by a separate door to return home. However, during a drop-off earlier this year, a member of staff is alleged to have made fun of how the school was preparing to welcome Logan — with chairs and tables removed from the entrance. Carolann, who was standing in the front foyer at the time, claims she overheard comments from a staff member apparently stating the school had entered ‘Logan Mode’, then using an expletive as he was described in a disparaging way. “To this day I don’t know how I kept my mouth shut,” Carolann told the Express. “I really don’t. Just at that, I saw Logan coming with two members of staff. “So, the janitor put me in his office and I had to hide for Logan to allow him in. And I came right out, I came up the road and I told Alistair [Logan’s dad], who was angered by the whole scenario.” Carolann informed the acting head teacher about the incident and requested a meeting. The matter was then escalated to the complaints department with an investigation launched. In a letter seen by the Express, the investigation’s outcome stated that, while the “head teacher offered an apology for any distress caused”, the team were unable to “confirm or deny the ‘Logan Mode’ comment”. An education department investigation reported that, following a review of the circumstances and actions taken, it is considered the school has responded “appropriately and proportionally”. Carolann says the incident has left her relationship with the school “broken” after she and Logan had positive experiences in the past and is considering an appeal. “I feel as if the relationship’s never been the same with school,” she said. “It’s like, ‘let’s just brush this under the carpet’. All we want is an apology for what happened.” David McGonigle, a Scottish Conservative councillor for Houston, Crosslee, and Linwood, has been assisting the family during the complaints process. He said: “This is a deeply distressing case and serious questions remain for many authorities to answer. I will continue to support my constituent appropriately as she continues to deal with this situation.” A council spokesperson said: “The complaint received has been fully investigated and was not upheld. We will continue to support all pupils in our schools by providing a positive learning environment in which they can thrive.”
