Police say they are investigating after Glasgow Central Mosque was vandalised with 'Scots First' graffiti on a wall. Leaders of the mosque in the Gorbals said they were “deeply upset” by the graffiti that they discovered on Monday, October 27. Police confirmed they had received a report of vandalism and that "enquiries are at an early stage". In a statement, the Mosque said: "Glasgow Central Mosque has always been proud of its place within civic society here in Glasgow. We say ‘People Make Glasgow’, and Muslims are very much part of that. In business, politics, sport, education, the NHS, and beyond, Scottish Muslims have contributed to and helped shape this city.” The mosque emphasised that the incident would not deter its work, highlighting ongoing community initiatives aimed at supporting the most vulnerable and fostering hope across the city. “We remain determined to continue bringing light to our city through our many community initiatives that support the most vulnerable and offer hope to those in need,” they continued. “We will keep working to ensure Glasgow remains a place where everyone — regardless of faith or background — feels safe, valued, welcome, and at home. "Acts like this do not represent the values of Glasgow or Scotland. Our city is renowned for its warmth, diversity, and sense of community, and it is that spirit which will always prevail." The graffiti has drawn widespread condemnation from the local community. One person said in response: "I thought we were better than this . Very sad. I know this is the work of an individual that does not have much intellect and does not reflect the views of Scotland." Another added: "Please know this isn’t the view of the vast majority of Glasgow and indeed the wider Scottish people."
