Space-Comm Expo at SEC Glasgow, is the country’s biggest ever exhibition of it’s kind. Scotland makes more satellites than anywhere else, outside California in the USA, with the likes of AAC Clyde Space, Spire Global, Craft Prospect and Alba Orbital. Our country has five potential spaceports with SaxaVord the first fully-licensed vertical launch spaceport in Europe. Scotland supports 20% of the UK jobs in the industry and is crucial to the world of space data analysis with ambitions to be Europe’s leading space nation by 2030. Space-Comm Expo Scotland Exhibition This year the biggest ever space exhibition in the country will take place in Glasgow. Space-Comm Expo Scotland is on December 3 and 4. Among the 2,300 delegates, 100 speakers and 80 exhibitors at this two-day event will be buyers, global leaders and influencers from Government, aerospace, defence, business and academia. Keynote speakers include Richard Lochhead MSP, Minister for Business in Scotland, JD Polk, Chief health and Medical Officer at NASA and Dr Paul Bate, Chief Executive Officer of the UK Space Agency. Attendees will also have chance to hear from astronaut David Mackay, a former Aeronautical Engineering student at the University of Glasgow, who has flown to space three times. Premier experience Entry to the event, with the opportunity for networking as you browse the stands, is free. But premier ticket holders who secure one of the limited passes, will benefit from a host of extra features including round table discussions, symposiums, forums and more across the two days, culminating in a social networking event and whisky tasking. From farming to finance satellites and the data they bring back to earth define, control and inform so many aspects of our lives. They are used for financial transactions, transport and traffic information, predicting the weather, communication, mapping climate change and more, so it should be no surprise that their use is expected to grow. Over 12,000 satellites are orbiting the earth right now, and that number is set to exceed 30,000 by the end of the decade. This new wave of mega constellations is good news for the space industry but also presents challenges such as in cyber security. At Space-Comm Expo Scotland you will learn more about that data gathering, robotics, AI, bio tech, space law, and more to help understand what it means for your industry and to inform strategic planning for space technologies in the future. With around 40 different countries represented and Governments, defence, the military and space leaders joining the manufacturers, financiers and power-brokers it’s an event you can’t afford to miss whether you’re in the business or looking to move into or invest in this space. Innovation Minister Richard Lochhead MSP said: “It is a hugely exciting time for the space sector, especially in Scotland, and we are scheduled to have the first vertical orbital launch from European soil later this year. “Scottish Government is fully committed to ensuring that we help the sector reach the highest heights.” Scotland’s space success So, why is Scotland such a draw for the space industry? Our country’s manufacturing background, technological know-how and available workforce has allowed the industry to thrive here. Backed by a commitment from Scottish and the UK Government, financial investment and a wealth of talent from academia at Scotland’s top-rated universities, the industry has both a firm base and buy-in for its future.
