Scotland's 'most vibey' city named thanks to huge Instagrammable appeal

A beautiful Scottish city has been named the country's "most vibey" thanks to its huge Instagrammable appeal. New research from Adobe Express ranked the capital among the top in the UK on a number of key factors. The study analysed 34 UK cities, taking into account Instagram activity and venue data to reveal where culture, creativity, and everyday vibrancy thrive. Edinburgh secured fifth place overall, taking Scotland's top spot for the best vibes. Adobe Express examined cities with populations over 150,000, scoring them based on the number of Instagram posts, cafes, restaurants, galleries, shops and other creative venues relative to population. The analysis aimed to uncover the moments that define a city’s character, from the aroma of fresh coffee to bustling markets, and how these experiences shape the UK’s most visually and culturally appealing locations. Edinburgh ranked fifth overall, performing particularly well for its aesthetics, where it came third. The city scored 12th for cafes and restaurants, 23rd for art and culture, and 21st for shopping and style. Some of the most Instagram-friendly spots in the capital include Princes Street Gardens and the Ross Fountain, where the turquoise and gold structure is framed by Edinburgh Castle for a striking, almost unreal view. The Scott Monument, a gothic tribute to Sir Walter Scott, stands as the world’s second tallest monument dedicated to a writer and offers a dramatic backdrop for photographs. The Vennel viewpoint in Grassmarket Square provides panoramic shots of the castle and surrounding area, while Dean Village delivers fairytale charm with its 19th-century cottages and storybook atmosphere, just a short walk from Princes Street. Glasgow also made the top 10, ranking seventh for aesthetics, ninth for cafes and restaurants, 26th for arts and culture, and 22nd for shopping and style. The city’s most Instagrammable locations include its vibrant street art murals, the iconic Duke of Wellington statue, and the grand Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, which boasts Victorian architecture and a striking red sandstone exterior. Ashton Lane in the West End offers a cobbled, cosy street lined with fairy lights and quirky shops, making it a photographer’s favourite. Manchester topped the UK-wide ranking for vibes, benefiting from its aesthetics as well as its cafe and restaurant scene, while Reading came second thanks to its strong focus on shopping and style, offering a mix of high-street and independent boutiques. London and Luton came third and fourth, respectively, before Edinburgh rounded out the top five. The ranking highlights how each city has its own unique appeal, whether through visual allure, food culture, or retail experiences. Adobe Express notes that creators can use tools like Instagram, flyers, logos and invitations to bring a city’s energy to life, helping people capture and share the distinct character of their surroundings. The research demonstrates the diversity of the UK’s creative hotspots. Edinburgh stands out for its visual and cultural charm, while Glasgow combines street art, architecture, and atmospheric streets to offer endless Instagram opportunities. These Scottish cities showcase how aesthetic appeal, culture, and culinary experiences intersect, proving that Scotland has much to offer for both locals and visitors looking to document the beauty and vibrancy of urban life.
